Ganapati symbolism

Ganesha, also known as "Ganapati" , is considered in the teachings of Hinduism as the Son of Shiva and Parvati. He is known as the "Remover of Obstacles", "God of Wisdom ", and the "Lord of Beginnings". Shri Ganesh is one of the most popular Gods among the followers of Hindu religion. He is invoked at the beginning of any propitious event. Ganesha is the "Lord of Intellect and Knowledge". Ganesha is also invoked as the Patron of Letters" before starting any writing. Ganesha is symbolized as having head of an elephant. Author Alain Daniélou explains that "Gaapati stands for one of the basic concepts of Hindu mythological symbolism, . . . the notion that man is the image of God. . . . Gaapati is represented as an elephant-headed man to express the unity of the small being, the microcosm, that is man, and the Great Being, the macrocosm, pictured as an elephant” (The Gods of India: Hindu Polytheism [New York: Inner Traditions International, 1985], pages 292 - 293).

Ganesha is also known by many other Names.
